About the Open Mic

Whether you plan to perform or just attend, the Lab is happy to welcome you to the best open mic in Madrid. Read on to learn how it works.

How Our Madrid Stand-Up Comedy Open Mic Works

The information below contains everything you need to know about the open mic at Madrid Comedy Lab.

Make sure you read the rules carefully — due to high interest, we don’t have the bandwidth to respond to virtual mic inquiries. If you have any additional questions, ask us in person at the show.

Signing Up

  • Show Up, Go Up: You don’t need to reserve a spot or write to us ahead of time — just show up to the venue and add your name to the sign-up list.
  • Sign-Up Deadline: You must sign up before the advertised show start time. After that, sign-ups are closed — no exceptions, even if the show starts a few minutes late.
  • Your Name Only: We don’t allow comics to add other comics’ names to the sign-up list if they haven’t arrived yet. To perform at the Lab’s Madrid stand-up comedy open mic, you must arrive and sign up on time.

Dates & Times

  • When We Host the Mics: The open mics at Madrid Comedy Lab are typically on Tuesdays at 20:30 and Sundays at 22:00, but exact days and times may vary depending on that week’s schedule.
  • Check the Schedule: Always check our weekly schedule post on Instagram or our Upcoming Shows page for exact details.

Performance Details

  • No Content Guidelines: We don’t believe in telling comics what they can and cannot talk about. If you cross the line, the audience will let you know — let it be a learning moment!
  • Lineup Order: Comics do not perform in the same order as they sign up — the lineup of the open mic at Madrid Comedy Lab is always random. Just write your name on the next available numbered row on the sign-up sheet. The host will call these numbers at random.
  • Stage Time: Each comic typically has 5 minutes to perform on stage. If 15 or more comics sign up, we may need to reduce stage time to 3 or 4 minutes. If fewer than 10 comics sign up, we may increase stage time to 6 or 7 minutes.
  • The Light: The host will wave a light at the back of the room when you have 1 minute left — that’s your cue to start wrapping up your set.
  • Don’t Go Over: Be courteous to your fellow comics and stay within the stage time limit. If you go over, the host will approach the stage until you step down. If you continue to go over, we reserve the right to cut the mic.

Community & Etiquette

We’re proud to host the leading Madrid stand-up comedy open mic. To ensure that everybody enjoys the show, we ask that you follow these rules:

  • Respect Others: While you have full creative freedom on stage, respect toward our staff, hosts, comics, and audience members is non-negotiable. Any harassment, hostility, or disrespect will result in your immediate removal from the premises.
  • No Talking: Talking during someone’s performance is distracting for both the performer on stage and the audience members. If you must talk, we ask that you leave the showroom and take the conversation to our bar.
  • Supporting Other Comics: If possible, please stay for the whole show, even after you’re done performing. This helps maintain a supportive environment.

We hope to see you at an open mic at Madrid Comedy Lab soon!
